SPECIAL LEFT ON THE MOVE NEWSLETTER: CRISIS IN VENEZUELA – 26.01

Venezuela is experiencing even more dramatic days in early 2019. The immense political, social and humanitarian crisis that has been taking place in the country for the last years seems to be aggravated as tensions between a government increasingly dependent on the Armed Forces and a right-wing opposition led by Washington are polarized. In the middle of a growing wave of street demonstrations, the latest news were the self-proclamation of Deputy Juan Guaidó as “acting president” of Venezuela, with the ready recognition of Trump and his allied governments in South America, which resulted in an answer of President Nicolas Maduro cutting off diplomatic relations with the United States.

The rejection of US interventionism and the call for a dialogue solution for the Venezuelan crisis marked the positions of some of the main forces of the world left. In this Special Newsletter organized by the Editorial Board of Left on The Move, we translate and spread the positions of Movimento Esquerda Socialista (Left Socialist Movement – a PSOL tendency), Marea Socialista (organization of critical Chavismo in Venezuela), PSOL National Executive leadership, SUMATE (internal tendency of Nuevo Peru), the Secretariat of Foreign Relations of Nuevo Perú, Movimiento Autonomista (member of the Chilean Broad Front), the National Bureau of the Chilean Broad Front, Democratic Socialists of America – DSA and the Executive Bureau of the IV International.

An excellent internationalist reading to everyone!

MES

NO TO THE IMPERIALIST INTERVENTION SUPPORTED BY THE BRAZILIAN GOVERNMENT! MAY THE VENEZUELAN PEOPLE DECIDE! | by MES (a internal current of Partido Socialismo e Liberdade – PSOL in Brasil)

It is of the utmost urgency that the Latin American leftists vehemently reject any interventionist pretension of the United States and its allies in Venezuela! That is why, whatever the rhetorical subterfuge that right-wing propaganda has come to grips with, the sovereignty of every Latin American people needs to be reaffirmed loud and clear.

MAREA SOCIALISTA

DOWN WITH THE EXTERNAL INTERFERENCE! FOR A NEW POLITICAL REFERENCE AGAINST MADURO!by Marea Socialista (a political organization of the ‘Critical Chavismo’ movement in Venezuela)

Our trade unions and grassroots organizations are largely destroyed, corrupted, or tied to the state apparatus, and another party has ceded its political independence to the leaders of the rich class that exploits us. That is why he has not yet emerged from Maduro’s authoritarian trap and has now fallen into the pro-Guaidó coup (of the Popular Will party), backed by the United States, which plays in favor of his interests, contrary to the Venezuelan nation.

DSA

STOP DANGEROUS AND COUNTER PRODUCTIVE US INTERVENTION | by DSA

We call upon the US government to immediately cease and desist all attempts to intervene in the internal politics of Venezuela and break with its shameful legacy of imperial control in the region. Further, we call upon DSA chapters and DSA supported political representatives to mobilize in this particularly critical moment around a campaign of solidarity with the Venezuelan people, aimed specifically at reversing the US government’s disastrous and counterproductive sanctions against Venezuela.

SÚMATE

VENEZUELA: THEY SHALL NOT PASS!by SÚMATE

What touches us now is that we oppose all interventionist policies. May the Venezuelan people themselves find the way to a democratic exit. May we be receptive to Venezuelan migrants who come to our countries to escape hunger. May the international pressure continue in the direction of the dialogue to avoid an increase of the violence and the process ends in a bloodshed and fire of the popular protests that have jumped since January 23 committing the actions of street in the traditional bastions chavistas.

MOVIMIENTO AUTONOMISTA

THE WAY OUT OF THE CRISIS IN VENEZUELA IS POLITICAL DIALOGUEby Movimiento Autonomista (Frente Amplio Chile)

We believe that the self-proclamation of Guaidó as President of Venezuela and, moreover, the support of President Trump seems very serious. It is unacceptable that President Piñera should follow this line, which only escalates violence and jeopardizes the sovereignty and right of self-determination of the Latin American peoples.

FOURTH INTERNATIONAL

NO TO THE COUP IN VENEZUELA! FOR A DEMOCRATIC SOLUTION TO THE CRISIS! by Fourth International

We call on all revolutionary, progressive and democratic forces to mobilise against this latest imperialist interference and to defend the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people in solving their political, social and economic problems democratically and pacifically, free of economic sabotage and without the threat of armed intervention, respecting the will of the majority as expressed through the ballot box.

PSOL

PSOL STATEMENT ON THE POLITICAL SITUATION IN VENEZUELA| by PSOL (Brazil)

The PSOL advocates a peaceful and constitutional exit for the Venezuelan crisis, respecting the sovereignty of its people and rejecting any foreign interference in this brother country.

FRENTE AMPLIO DE CHILE

WE REJECT PIÑERA’S DECISION TO SUPPORT GUAIDO’S SELF-PROCLAMATION | by Frente Amplio (Chile)

We call on the Government of Chile to collaborate in a way out of this situation focused on political dialogue and not on violence. No effort should be made to provide all possible forums for a peaceful solution to the Venezuelan crisis, in order to build a democratic solution that will prevent the deepening of the conflict.

NUEVO PERÚ

YES TO DIALOGUE, NO TO INTERVENTIONISM! | by Nuevo Perú

We reject any military interventionism and call for peaceful exits to achieve political stability. In Venezuela, social polarization, expressed in the streets, is fueled by the inability of the elites to reach agreements. The longer it takes to reach a negotiated exit, the more risk there will be for violent outflows. It is urgent that the different sectors in conflict admit the need for dialogue and talk, putting the interests of the population above all else.

A new page to support and build new alternatives in Latin America and the world, defending the power of the workers and people against the 1% of the rich and privileged, and a society without exploitation.
