DEMOCRATIC TRIUMPH: WE CLOSE CONGRESS AND CONTINUE MOBILIZING

[announcing a wide range of social and political organizations in which mobilization is coordinated on Thursday, October 3]

Constitutional President Martín Vizcarra, in the use of his constitutional powers and in the face of citizen demand to fight corruption, dissolved Congress; citizens who have been actively mobilizing since 2016 must monitor giving rise to a new scenario of democratic transition that.
We warn that conservative, authoritarian and corrupt forces – desperate – try to confuse, creating a false controversy to impose in the presidency the former Congresswoman Mercedes Araoz, thus seeking to question and break the democratic and constitutional order. We, therefore, affirm ourselves as defenders of democracy and that we are not facing a coup d’etat but constitutional decisions made by the executive in response to the obstructive and corrupt attitude of the parliamentary majority; those responsible for the crisis.
We have a historic opportunity to eradicate corruption in society, in Congress and at all levels of government, to achieve real democracy, with social justice, decent work, no gender discrimination or violence and sovereignty of our natural resources. Therefore, with hope and firmness, we declare ourselves in vigilance and permanent mobilization.
We welcome the pronouncements in support of the democratic and constitutional exit from the crisis, consolidated through the vote off confidence and the dissolution of Congress. We invoke all citizenship, expressed in all its diversity, as well as democratic forces, to mobilize in defense of a transition that paves the way for the urgent changes and transformations that the country needs.
We reaffirm our defense of democracy and call for a national mobilization out of respect for the will of the citizen that requires a democratic transition that begins with the closing of Congress.
